PropertyOfZack Review : : Daylight

propertyofzack:

Daylight’s recently released EP, The Difference In Good And Bad Dreams¢, showcases the band’s talent as songwriters, as musicians, and as young artists developing into an impressive unit. Daylight’s sound is closest to a typical post-hardcore group mixed with a pinch of the Foo Fighters’s early work and a splash of Nirvana at their best. While this may not seem particularly appealing, Daylight manages to pull it off with ease.

The first track, “On The Way To Dad’s,” shows off the harsh vocals and grungy guitar riffs that we continue to see on the rest of the EP. The band contrasts this harsh singing with softer, Nirvana-esque vocals, a nice pairing. The guitar adds to the depth of dynamics with a grungy, heavy, almost fuzzy sound, which beautifully frames the vocals. This creates a perfect atmosphere for the disjointed lyrics that aimlessly lash out at the unforgiving world.

“Damp,” the third track on the EP, is the most musically clean and lyrically jarring, and my personal favorite. While staying true to Daylight’s sound, “Damp” manages to sound crisper and cleaner than the previous two tracks. The guitar riff is a bit lighter, the tempo a bit faster; the result is a solid, catchy song. With lyrics like “Bleed. Future me. Hell seems way too close to me. // Still, I’ll never heal. My skin wasn’t meant to feel,” the track furthers the troubled feeling portrayed in the EP while still taking the sound in a new direction.
